Banking for Victory

Upton House, the epitome of 1920's chic. A wonderful visit, with so much to see. Early 20th Century mod cons to a huge fine art collection, it really is worth a visit. However for 2015, Upton has been transformed into the wartime scene, just how it would have been in the 1940s. As a personal contribution to the war effort, Lord Bearstead was involved in the Kindertransport (which you have probably heard about in the news in the last week or so) but he also moved his family out of Upton so that the family owned M. Samuel & Co bank could move in to protect the staff and assets.

Entry is permited by timed ticket and we were very lucky that it was our time just as the heavens opened with one mother of a thunderstorm!

Much of the house is covered in sheets, transformed in to the 1940's with staff belongings in the rooms once home to the Shell exhibition!

It is well worth the trip to Upton, to see the wonderful efforts they have been to for the transformation!
